Many Floridas: Women Envisioning Change began with a group feminist researchers, teachers, advocates and activists in Florida, long isolated and marginalized in small, under-funded and under-valued departments, programs and organizations, who worked together to form the Florida Consortium for Women’s and Gender Studies (FCWGS). The essays in this collection report on the status of women in Florida, discuss service-learning as a feminist pedagogy, describe graduate student’s research on issues concerning women in Florida, and debate the value and consequences of internationalizing Women’s Studies.

This collection of feminist papers, originally presented at the inaugural Florida Consortium for Women’s and Gender Studies conference in April, 2006, reflects the deeper meaning of its title. Each of the authors write from the standpoint of various intersections of class, race, ethnicity, age, sexuality and profession, and it is from these unique social locations that they dare to envision change.

Judy Hayden, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of English and Director of Women’s Studies at the University of Tampa and a founding member of the Florida Consortium for Women's and Gender Studies. She publishes on women’s writing and culture in seventeenth-century England and contemporary British women writers.

Sharon Kay Masters, Ph.D., is Professor of Sociology, Chair of the Sociology and Criminology Department, and Director of Women’s Studies at Florida Southern College. She is a founding member of the Florida Consortium for Women's and Gender Studies and is an activist involved in the local community.

Rhonda L.S. Ovist, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Sociology and Coordinator of the Women’s Studies Program at Rollins College and a founding member of the Florida Consortium for Women’s and Gender Studies. Her interests are in gender, childhood, family, and sports, and she has published articles on gender in youth recreational basketball.

Kim Vaz, Ph.D. and LMHC, founder of the Florida Consortium for Women's and Gender Studies, is Chair of the Department of Women’s Studies at The University of South Florida, a faculty member of the Tampa Bay Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies, and a team leader of the USF initiative on Sustainable Communities.
