Medieval Art and Architecture after the Middle Ages explores the endurance of and nostalgia for medieval monuments through their reception in later periods, specifically illuminating the myriad ways in which tangible and imaginary artifacts of the Middle Ages have served to articulate contemporary aspirations and anxieties. Janet T. Marquardt (Ph.D., University of California, Los Angeles) is Professor of Art History and Women’s Studies at Eastern Illinois University. She is lead author of Frames of Reference: Art, History, and the World (2005). Her work on medieval France includes From Martyr to Monument: The Abbey of Cluny as Cultural Patrimony (2007).

Alyce Jordan (Ph.D., Bryn Mawr College) is Associate Professor of Art History at Northern Arizona University. She has published articles in Gesta, Word and Image, as well as several edited collections and is the author of Visualizing Kingship in the Windows of the Sainte-Chapelle (2002).
