His graduate degrees include the Th.M. from Dallas in Dallas, TX, a Ph.D. from Drew University in Madison, NJ, and the Dr.Theol. from Marburg University in Marburg, Germany. Ordained as a Presbyterian, Dr. Richards has pastored churches and taught on the faculties of universities and seminaries. He has taught and preached in Germany, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the Congo. He currently teaches in the department of Religion and Philosophy at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC.
